A very important period in the history of beer was the establishment
of the Reinheitsgebot, issued in 1516 by Duke Wilhelm of Bavaria.
The German Purity Law prohibits the use of any ingredients
other than Barley Malt, Hops, Yeast and water in the brewing
of beer. To this day, many brewers still adopt this law and
brew their beer according to the Reinheitsgebot.
|
|
| The
law is not used merely as a health measure, but protects the
integrity of pure beer. This is the oldest law governing food
and beverages which is still used in the world today. |
|
| At Namibia
Breweries Limited, all beers are brewed strictly in accordance
with the Reinheitsgebot. This exceptional brewing standard is
adhered to, to produce the premium quality pure beers recognised
as such in international markets. |
|
| The
prohibition of the addition of preservatives and adjuncts, which
would affect the nutritional value and the flavour of the beer,
ensures that the 100% malt beer brewed at NBL has many nutritional
advantages. |
